Safe Schools Assessment and Resource Bank Privacy Policy

1. Special notice to parents.
We are especially sensitive to and vigilant about privacy concerns because of the young age of many of our users. Therefore, we do not collect any personally identifiable information on any of our users. As a result, parents can be assured that the Safe Schools Assessment and Resource Bank is in full compliance with federal regulations regarding online privacy, most notably the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act or COPPA (for more information, see www.ftc.gov/ogc/coppa1.htm).
2. What information this site gathers about you.
Assessment Responses
At the beginning of an assessment parents and school staff will be asked to provide their gender, and students will be asked to provide their gender and grade level. As stated above, we do not collect any personally identifiable information on our users.
Information entered by Administrators
When administrative accounts are created, a unique username and password are assigned to access the Safe Schools Assessment and Resource Bank. Administrators also enter demographic data pertaining to their school, including school name, school district, state, school type, grade levels, number of students, staff and parents. None of these data, however, represent personally identifiable information on assessment participants.
Web Site Usage Information
Sopris West tracks information about web site activity on our site, such as pages viewed and searches made. This usage data is anonymous. We will analyze this information to enhance our site and services to best meet the needs of our user community.
3. With whom we share the information we gather.
Subscriber Schools' Access to Information
Safe Schools Assessment and Resource Bank data are only available by subscription through a school or similar educational organization at the district or state level. For our subscribing organizations, authorized personnel may have access to the data within their scope of administration.
Usage Information
The application service provider, Sopris West, and the Division of Educational Research and Service at The University of Montana will have access to all data for administrative and research purposes, without compromising the participating schools’ and individuals’ confidentiality.
4. The security procedures in place to protect your information.
Sopris West uses state-of-the-art security technology to protect against access, loss, misuse, or alteration of user information. We have deployed the latest in server, database, backup, and firewall technologies to protect all Safe Schools Assessment and Resource Bank information. All data reside in a tightly controlled and secure data center. Information about our users and their use of the Safe Schools Assessment and Resource Bank is not accessible to unauthorized parties.
5. Information stored on your computer.
Cookies
A cookie is a small piece of information that web sites use to remember information about users. There are two types of cookies: session cookies and persistent cookies. The Safe Schools Assessment and Resource Bank only uses session cookies. These exist only during your Safe Schools Assessment and Resource Bank session to track its duration and to allow the site to function more effectively.
